Learn Shorinji Kempo, a modern Japanese martial art with our classes near City University.

Shorinji Kempo is a balanced system of self defence and martial arts training. Based on ancient Chinese fighting arts and spiritual practices, it teaches cooperation and self development as well as physical self-defence techniques.

So if you want to learn practical self-defence in fun and safe environment, come and join us at any of our regular sessions. Beginners are always welcome.


About us

The club at City University is one of the oldest in London teaching Shorinji Kempo, and we are pleased that it's founding branch master, Tameo Mizuno, 8th Dan seihanshi has returned to teach us once again. We're also lucky to have two assistant instructors, Robert Villiers (5th Dan), and Daniel (3rd Dan), a matted dojo and a great selection of equipment including bags, gloves and chest protectors to train with.

Class fees

Class fees are payable monthly at the start of the month in person or by standing order.

Full month
Adults: £50
Concessions: £40
City University students: £25

We also have drop in rates for visitors, or for those who can't commit to training regularly:

Concessions: £8
City University students: £5

Although, of course, we'd encourage you to come as much as you can. As with most things in life, the more practice you get, the quicker you'll progress.

In addition there is an annual insurance and BSKF membership fee of £50 (£40 students), renewed every April.
